Tour through Yucatan wit privateguide April 2011
We (two colleagues) wanted to go on holiday to Mexico, and we did not really want to participate in a groups tour, nor staying at the beach only. After some time looking on google we came to the website of Mextrotter. HEre they offered tours with a private guide. We could say ourselves for how long, when, and what we would like to see. We choose for a tour through Yucatan, and were especially interrested in the Maya tempels and some cities like Campeche and Merida. An employee from Mextrotter thought of a good route with a guide, transport and hotels. Our tour started in Playa del Carmen, where we met our guide on day one. From here we went to Tulum and Bacalar, a wonderful lake. From here we went to chetumal to visit a museum. On our way we stopped at the bungalows of Calakmul. This is a wonderful archaeological site in the middle of the jungle. Here we arranged an extra guide who took us into the jungle to see animals like crocodiles, toucans etc. From here we continued to Campeche and Merida. We visited a Maya family who had opened their house for the public. We could really see how they make totillas for example. From Merida we continued to Izamal (the yellow town) and Chichen Itzá. We also swam in some cenotes and continued to Ek Balam and to the bay of Akumal, where we swam with turtles! In 6 to 7 days we finished our tour and we rested 3 days at the beach. From here we visited Cozumel for example. Travelling with a private guide was a wonderful experience. The guide offered loads of inseder-tips, resulting in extra excursions and more sight-seeing! All this made our trip a wonderful experience!
